Paris Jackson says her relationship with late father Michael Jackson is ‘no one’s business’

Paris Jackson says she has found peace in keeping her relationship with her father, Michael Jackson, private, explaining that it is “no one’s business” and that she no longer feels pressure to share personal details publicly. Speaking on the “Trying Not to Die” podcast with Jack Osbourne, Paris reflected on how her younger years in the spotlight made her feel she had to reveal everything to the public, as though she owed that level of openness to others. She said that mindset has changed significantly in recent years, and she now believes that none of us owe anyone everything about our personal lives.

Paris, who was 11 when Michael Jackson died in 2009, said she is more careful about what she posts on social media in relation to her father. She wants any tribute to feel genuine rather than performative. She explained that she no longer feels obligated to honor Michael in the same way fans might on his birthday or death anniversary. Instead, she sees their bond as deeply personal and unique, not something that should be publicly recreated for appearances. In her words, she had a real relationship with him, not a parasocial one, and therefore she will not copy how others express their love for him. She described Michael as her “best friend” and said the connection she has with him remains beautiful and meaningful to her.

Paris also made clear that she values privacy when it comes to her father’s legacy and her own memories of him. She said she is in a “very beautiful spot” with her dad and does not feel the need to explain that relationship to the public. For her, the most important thing is that the bond remains authentic, even if it stays behind the scenes. Her comments reflect a broader shift in how she approaches fame and family, moving away from the expectation that every part of her life must be shared online.

The conversation also touched on Michael Jackson’s upcoming 2026 biopic, Michael, which Paris said she does not support if it includes inaccuracies or dishonest portrayals. In September 2025, she posted Instagram Stories criticizing the project and making clear that she was not involved. According to her, she read an early draft of the script and offered notes about what she felt was dishonest or uncomfortable, but when those concerns were not addressed, she stepped away. She said her issue is not hatred or resentment toward her father, but rather a preference for honesty over sales and financial gain.

Paris pushed back against claims that she wants nothing to do with Michael Jackson, saying that is not her truth. Instead, she emphasized that she is committed to protecting the integrity of his story and her own relationship with him.
