Onslaught Trailer: Adria Arjona Battles Super Soldiers in Adam Wingard’s New Film
A24 has released the first trailer for Onslaught, a horror-driven action film from director Adam Wingard, known for You’re Next and Godzilla vs. Kong. The movie is set to arrive in theaters on Friday, September 4.
The film stars Adria Arjona as an army sniper and mother who lives with her family in a desert trailer park. Her quiet life is disrupted when an unexpected danger emerges: a rogue group of genetically engineered super soldiers escapes from a nearby military facility and threatens the community she has tried to make safe. The trailer shows her settling into the desert with her daughter, enjoying small moments of peace, including target practice and a sense that she has finally found stability.
That calm quickly gives way to tension as Black Hawk helicopters appear over the desert. Arjona’s character begins to suspect that something secret is happening nearby, hinting at a hidden military operation. The trailer then introduces the central threat through a voice describing the soldiers as the human equivalent of a heat-seeking missile and “the perfect soldier.” Their faces are mostly concealed, adding to the mystery and menace.
Rebecca Hall appears in a key role and provides crucial exposition, explaining that the program was designed to create an ideal combatant to be used against the domestic population. She says the men have been conditioned to kill until they are stopped, framing the film as both a survival story and a commentary on militarized violence. The trailer also briefly features Drew Starkey as a bleached-blonde character who seems to be involved in containing the fallout from the failed experiment.
Onslaught is opening against several other titles, including Paramount’s crime thriller By Any Means, which stars Mark Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, as well as the Sundance horror film Buddy and the documentary Barbara Forever about Barbara Hammer.
The cast also includes Dan Stevens, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, and Alex Pereira. Wingard directed the film from a screenplay by Simon Barrett, based on a story developed by the two together. The producers are Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett, Wingard, Jeremy Platt, Alexander Black, and Barrett.
The trailer positions Onslaught as a tense blend of desert survival, military conspiracy, and high-intensity action. With a central performance from Arjona and a premise built around a small community under attack from engineered killing machines, the film aims to combine horror, science fiction, and action elements into a tightly wound theatrical release.
