NBA The Run: The Video Game Basketball Fans Have Been Waiting For

NBA The Run, a new 3v3 arcade-style basketball video game inspired by early 2000s streetball, launched on June 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam. The game features current NBA stars and fictional streetball legends competing in fast-paced online multiplayer Knockout Tournaments across 11 courts around the world, including Venice Beach and Harlem’s Rucker Park. Players can compete solo or with a squad.

The title is developed by Play by Play Studios, whose founder and CEO Scott Probst said the team wanted to honor the legacy of basketball video games while building something new for fans. He said the studio’s partnership with the NBA and the NBPA gives the project a bigger platform and reflects the team’s goal of creating an original sports game with broad appeal.

NBA The Run also features Bobbito Garcia as the announcer. Garcia is a legendary DJ and radio host who previously provided the voice for NBA Street Vol. 2 and NBA Street V3, adding to the game’s nostalgic connection to classic street basketball titles.

At launch, the playable roster includes many of the NBA’s biggest current names, such as Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Nikola Jokić, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, Luka Dončić, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Joel Embiid, Jalen Brunson, Victor Wembanyama and Anthony Edwards. Other featured players include Bam Adebayo, LaMelo Ball, Paolo Banchero, Scottie Barnes, Devin Booker, Jaylen Brown, Cade Cunningham, Anthony Davis, Cooper Flagg, Josh Giddey, Tyrese Haliburton, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard, Tyrese Maxey, Donovan Mitchell, Ja Morant, Amen Thompson, Zion Williamson and Trae Young.

The standard edition of NBA The Run is priced at $29.99, while a deluxe edition costs $39.99 and includes rookie variants of Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Luka Dončić, along with additional features. The game is positioned as a global hoops experience built for basketball fans who want an arcade-style alternative to traditional simulation titles.
