NASCAR Suspends 23XI Racing Employee Evanna Howell After Alleged Golf Cart Assault on 77-Year-Old Man

Evanna Howell, a 35-year-old senior account manager for 23XI Racing, has been suspended indefinitely by NASCAR following an incident that occurred over the weekend before the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. NASCAR issued a document on Wednesday, May 27, stating that Howell was suspended for a behavioral reason.

According to a report from WBTV in Charlotte, Cabarrus County court records say Howell was arrested on Saturday, May 23. The arrest warrant alleges that she used a golf cart in an assault involving a 77-year-old man. She was charged with assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury, and the man reportedly suffered a severe laceration. The exact circumstances leading to the incident have not yet been made public.

WBTV also obtained Howell’s mugshot, while reports say she was released from Cabarrus County jail on Tuesday, May 26 after posting a $125,000 bond. Her next scheduled court appearance is reportedly set for June 16.

Howell has been recognized within the NASCAR community in the past, including receiving the NASCAR Partner Award during the 2024 NASCAR Drive for Diversity Awards. Her suspension comes amid attention on 23XI Racing, the team owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin. As of now, there has been no public statement from 23XI Racing regarding the suspension or the allegations.

The case has drawn attention because Howell held a senior role within one of NASCAR’s high-profile teams and was previously honored for her work in the sport. NASCAR has not provided additional details beyond the indefinite suspension, and the matter remains under review as the legal process moves forward.
