Alyson Stoner De La Garza joined Desperate Housewives as Gabrielle and Carlos’s daughter Juanita after the time jump between seasons four and five and stayed with the series until the finale. She said the experience contributed to the development of an eating disorder and recalled that her earliest memories of trying to starve herself began when she was 7 years old. According to her, her family did not know what she was seeing online because she kept it secret.

In September 2024, De La Garza announced that she was expecting a baby with Ryan Mitchell. The following month, she revealed that their daughter, Xiomara, died after being delivered by emergency C-section. The actress’s comments brought renewed attention to her personal struggles and her openness about the long-term effects of childhood bullying and body shaming.
