Kitchener Rangers Aim to Stay Perfect at Memorial Cup Against Chicoutimi Saguenéens on TSN

The Memorial Cup continued in Kelowna on Tuesday with a crucial round-robin matchup between the Ontario Hockey League champion Kitchener Rangers and the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League champion Chicoutimi Saguenéens, as both clubs battled for position in junior hockey’s premier championship tournament.

Kitchener entered the game with a perfect 2-0 record and the chance to secure first place in the round-robin, which would earn the Rangers an automatic berth into the Memorial Cup Final. A victory over Chicoutimi would put Kitchener in command of the standings after an impressive comeback win over the Western Hockey League champion Everett Silvertips on Monday.

Against Everett, Kitchener built a 2-0 lead in the opening period on goals from captain Cameron Reid and forward Jack Pridham, before the Silvertips responded to even the score. The Rangers then took over, scoring four straight goals while goaltender Christian Kirsch delivered a standout performance with 40 saves. Reid led the offense with one goal and three assists, while Pridham added two goals. Cameron Arquette, Gabriel Chiarot, and Christian Humphreys also found the net in the victory.

Reid, a 2025 first-round pick of the Nashville Predators, was a key contributor throughout the season and playoffs. He recorded 15 goals in 56 regular-season games and added two goals and 14 points in 18 playoff contests as Kitchener finished with one of the top records in the OHL and captured the league title. Pridham, a Chicago Blackhawks prospect, was also a major force offensively. He finished fifth in OHL scoring during the regular season with 90 points, including 46 goals, and added two goals and 17 points in the playoffs. Kitchener is making its first Memorial Cup appearance since 2008.

Chicoutimi arrived with momentum after earning its first tournament win on Sunday in dramatic fashion against host Kelowna. The Saguenéens led 2-1 late in the third period, but Kelowna forward Mazden Leslie tied the game with 4:32 remaining. Rookie forward Liam Lefebvre then scored his second goal of the night in 3-on-3 overtime to give Chicoutimi a 3-2 victory. Lefebvre, acquired before the CHL trade deadline from Rimouski, produced 32 goals and 59 points in 59 regular-season games and followed that with five goals and 12 points in the playoffs. Anton Linde also scored for Chicoutimi, while Ottawa Senators prospect Lucas Beckman made 27 saves on 29 shots.

A win for Chicoutimi on Tuesday would have tightened the Memorial Cup standings and given the Saguenéens the head-to-head tiebreaker over Kitchener. The round-robin concludes Wednesday with an all-WHL matchup between host Kelowna and Everett.
