Everett Silvertips Season Defined by Five Key Moments in the Western Hockey League
The 2025-26 season already stands as the most significant in Everett Silvertips history, as the club followed a WHL regular-season title with a league championship and a Memorial Cup berth. Several defining moments shaped that rise, beginning with an explosive opening stretch that established Everett as a dominant offensive team. The Silvertips opened the season with three hat tricks in their first two weeks, including Zackary Shantz’s first career three-goal game in a comeback win over Wenatchee after Everett trailed 3-0. Seattle Kraken prospect Julius Miettinen then produced a hat trick against Tri-City, followed by a five-point night from Florida Panthers prospect Shea Busch against Victoria. That early scoring burst helped Everett start 10-0-1-0 and set the tone for a season in which the club became one of the WHL’s highest-scoring teams.
The trade deadline also proved pivotal. General manager Mike Fraser added key pieces without sacrificing core assets, acquiring Philadelphia Flyers prospect Luke Vlooswyk from Red Deer and veteran defenseman Kayd Ruedig from Kamloops. Those additions became even more valuable when captain Tarin Smith was injured during the playoffs, forcing Everett to lean on its defensive depth. Both Vlooswyk and Ruedig delivered in the championship run, with Ruedig contributing offensively in a decisive win over Prince Albert and Vlooswyk scoring a tying goal in Game 3.
Another signature moment came on January 21, 2026, when Everett erased a 3-0 deficit against Memorial Cup host Kelowna. Matias Vanhanen sparked the rally late in the second period, Clarke Shaefer added a goal, Carter Bear scored soon after exiting the penalty box, and Rylan Gould eventually delivered the game-winner in a 5-3 comeback victory. The win reinforced the Silvertips’ identity as the “Cardiac Tips” and extended their dominance over Kelowna.
A road trip through the Central Division further confirmed Everett’s championship credentials. From February 10-16, the Silvertips posted a 4-1 record against strong opposition, including wins over Red Deer, Edmonton, and Medicine Hat. Landon DuPont played a major role throughout the trip, and Shantz scored the overtime winner in a statement victory over the reigning WHL champion Tigers. Everett later set a WHL record for road wins in a 68-game season.
Finally, Everett’s sweep of Portland in the WHL Championship Series removed one of the franchise’s biggest postseason obstacles. After three straight playoff exits to the Winterhawks, the Silvertips responded with a dominant four-game series, outscoring Portland 25-5 and completing the breakthrough that pushed them to the WHL crown.
