“Zodiaque”: TF1 Finally Reveals the Return Date for Its Cult Summer Saga, 20 Years After the Original, with Francis Huster
TF1 has confirmed the broadcast date for the long-awaited sequel to the hit French mini-series Zodiaque. The new event series will premiere on Thursday, June 18, at 9:10 p.m., with six 52-minute episodes scheduled across three evenings, featuring two new episodes per night until Thursday, July 2. The series will also be available for streaming on TF1+.
A follow-up to Zodiaque (2004) and its second season, Le maître du Zodiaque (2006), the new mini-series brings back Francis Huster in the role of police commissioner Antoine Keller. The story once again takes place in Aix-en-Provence, where the respected Escoffier family is struck by a series of mysterious murders. These crimes quickly bring back memories of the Zodiac killer’s chilling pattern, even though everyone believed the serial murderer who once terrorized the Saint-André and Daguerre families had died years earlier.
This new chapter does not reunite Huster with Claire Keim, who played Esther Delaître in the first two seasons. Instead, the cast includes Erika Sainte, Philypa Phoenix, Marine Delterme, Lannick Gautry, and Arthur Jugnot. The mini-series is directed by Bruno Garcia, whose recent work includes the successful TF1 production Brocéliande.
In addition to the new episodes, TF1 has announced that the first two seasons, Zodiaque and Le maître du Zodiaque, will be added to TF1+ starting June 11, giving viewers a chance to revisit the original story before the sequel begins.
Claire Keim previously explained that she could not join the project because of a scheduling conflict. The filming dates overlapped with plans to begin work on her new album. She said the role of Esther Delaître was deeply connected to her, and that turning it down was difficult, but necessary so neither project would suffer.
The original Zodiaque was a major ratings success when it aired in 2004, drawing an average of 10.8 million viewers. Its sequel, Le maître du Zodiaque, also performed strongly in 2006, averaging 8.1 million viewers. With nostalgia running high and interest already building around the return of one of TF1’s most memorable thriller franchises, the new mini-series will now aim to match the popularity of its predecessors.
