Baseball Gameday: May 31, 2026 vs. Washington State

Oregon State and Washington State will meet Sunday in an elimination game at the NCAA Regional at PK Park in Eugene, Oregon, with first pitch scheduled for 1:06 p.m. PT on May 31, 2026. Oregon State enters at 44-13 and will start left-hander Trey Morris, who is 6-0 with a 2.06 ERA. Washington State comes in at 31-27 and is expected to counter with right-hander Griffin Smith, who is 5-4 with a 6.08 ERA.

The Beavers are coming off a 9-2 win over Yale on Saturday, a game in which Eric Segura struck out a career-high 10 batters. Oregon State broke the game open with six runs in the eighth inning after holding a 3-1 lead through seven. Ethan Porter and Josh Proctor each had three hits, while Tyler Inge added two hits and drove in three runs. Oregon State collected 15 hits as a team in the victory.

Sunday’s matchup carries major postseason implications for the Beavers. A win would send Oregon State to the NCAA Regional final for the sixth straight postseason and the eighth time in the last nine years. Under head coach Mitch Canham, the Beavers are 12-5 in elimination games after Saturday’s victory. A win would also give Oregon State its 11th 45-win season in program history and its fourth in the last five seasons under Canham.

Oregon State has been strong on both sides of the ball in the regional so far. Starters Ethan Kleinschmit and Segura combined to keep Washington State and Yale hitless through the first three innings of regional play. Overall, the two opponents have managed just 11 hits in 18 innings against the Beavers. Oregon State’s offense has struck out only four times in the first two games, while the pitching staff has recorded 29 strikeouts over 18 innings.

The Beavers are also close to a program milestone in strikeouts. They have 675 strikeouts this season and need just two more to break the school record of 676 set last year. Proctor has been a key part of the offense, with five of his 14 doubles coming at PK Park this season. He previously hit three doubles in a March 3 win over Oregon and added two more against Yale. Proctor also had three hits against Yale, marking his sixth three-hit game of the season, while Porter posted a season-best three hits.

Oregon State has shown the ability to finish games against Washington State, with the teams splitting their last 10 meetings. Five of the last eight have been decided by one run, though the Beavers have also delivered some lopsided wins in the series, including 10-6 in 2024, 15-1 in 2025 and 18-0 in 2026. The Beavers are 28-5 when drawing at least four walks and 9-1 when striking out four times or fewer, trends that have helped define their season heading into Sunday’s elimination showdown.
