Major Road Closures Expected in Greater Montreal on Sunday for Tour de l’Île and Laval Firefighters’ Run

Montreal drivers are being urged to prepare for major traffic disruptions this weekend as the Go vélo Montréal Festival and several construction projects bring widespread road closures across the city and surrounding areas. The annual Tour de l’Île cycling events will take over dozens of streets in multiple boroughs on Sunday afternoon, while additional closures are expected in Laval, on major bridges, and at key highway interchanges.

The larger Tour de l’Île event will run Sunday from 8:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will affect major arteries across Montreal. In Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension, Saint-Laurent Boulevard will be closed between Bernard Street and Legendre Street, Jarry Street West will close to De l’Épée Avenue, and Park Avenue will be inaccessible between Parc métro station and Thérèse-Lavoie Avenue. Streets around Frédéric-Back Park will also be blocked, limiting access to the northern side of the park. Saint-Michel Boulevard will remain mostly open, except near Deville and Hérelle streets and the Beaubien Street intersection.

In Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Saint-Hubert Street will be closed from Legendre Street to Gouin Boulevard, while eastbound lanes on Gouin Boulevard will be reserved for cyclists. De Lorimier Avenue will be closed between Prieur Street and Frédéric-Back Park. Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie will see closures on Beaubien Street between 21st Avenue and Des Érables Avenue. In Plateau-Mont-Royal, most commercial streets will stay open, but residential roads including Henri-Julien and Drolet will be affected. Cyclists will also travel through the Roy and Saint-Denis intersection toward Ville-Marie.

Downtown Montreal, including Ville-Marie and the Quartier des spectacles, will see closures on Saint-Denis Street, Sainte-Catherine Street, Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Saint-Antoine Street near Victoria Square and McGill Street. In the Sud-Ouest, cyclists will move along Wellington Street, Saint-Patrick Street and Notre-Dame Street, affecting access through the Lachine Canal sector and the Saint-Rémi tunnel area. Further west, closures in Westmount, Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce and Outremont will affect parts of Saint-Catherine Street, Sherbrooke Street, Earnscliffe Avenue, McLynn Avenue and Barclay Avenue.

Outside Montreal, the Laval Firefighters’ Run will lead to road closures Sunday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Highway ramps and exits near Highways 15 and 19 will be impacted, including access at Lévesque Boulevard and ramps to Notre-Dame and Concorde boulevards.

Construction work will add to the weekend congestion. On the Honoré-Mercier Bridge, only one lane in each direction will be open from Friday at 10 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m. Additional restrictions are planned at the Highway 13 and Highway 520 interchange near Côte-de-Liesse, where lane reductions, ramp closures and portions of Highway 520 eastbound will be shut down through Sunday night. In Vaudreuil-Dorion, Boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes and parts of the Highway 20/30 interchange will also be affected.

Transport officials say schedules may change because of weather or operational conditions and advise checking Québec 511 for real-time traffic updates.
