Trump Criticizes Musicians Who Pulled Out of Freedom 250 Concert, Calls Them “Third-Rate Artists”

Donald Trump is facing a growing backlash over the planned Freedom 250 concert series, a Trump administration-backed event tied to the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. After the lineup was announced this week, five artists reportedly dropped out, including Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, Morris Day, Young MC, and The Commodores. Some of the performers said they had been misled about the nature of the event, while Vanilla Ice and Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli said they still plan to appear.

In response to the withdrawals, Trump suggested he may replace the musical acts with a speech of his own. In a post on Truth Social, he described himself as a bigger draw than Elvis in his prime and said he was considering an “America Is Back” rally at the same time and place as the concert. He said the event would feature only “great patriots” and framed it as a celebration of America led by himself.

Trump’s message also criticized the artists who pulled out, calling them overpriced and unhappy, and said he prefers being surrounded by “happy,” “smart,” and “successful” people. He claimed the United States had been “dead” two years ago but is now the “hottest” country in the world, crediting his leadership for the turnaround.

The statement did not make clear what date Trump meant by “Wednesday,” since the Freedom 250 concert series was listed as running from June 25 through July 10. The uncertainty adds to the confusion surrounding the event as preparations continue and the lineup appears to be changing.

The controversy has turned the Freedom 250 concert into a politically charged spectacle, with Trump now positioning himself not just as a supporter of the event, but potentially as its main attraction.
