Flávio Bolsonaro and members of his campaign have been working to persuade former senator Alvaro Dias to withdraw from the Senate race. In exchange, Dias would become the campaign coordinator for Flávio’s presidential bid in Brazil’s South region and would be promised a ministerial post if Flávio wins the election.
The main goal of the move is to remove Dias from the contest and strengthen deputy Filipe Barros, who is set to run for the Senate in Paraná. On Tuesday, the former senator had dinner in Brasília with Flávio’s campaign coordinator, Rogério Marinho, and was presented with the proposal again.
Dias has been leading polls commissioned by the Liberal Party in Paraná for the Senate seat. According to allies, he has not shown enthusiasm for joining Flávio’s campaign. The former senator is signaling that it is unlikely he will accept the offer. He has told associates that if he returns to political activity, it will be to run for the Senate. He was not elected in 2022.
On Friday, Flávio Bolsonaro is expected in Curitiba for the launch of Sergio Moro’s pre-candidacy for governor of Paraná, as well as the pre-candidacies of Filipe Barros and Deltan Dallagnol for the Senate.
