Spencer Pratt Accuses Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass of Election Law Violations

Spencer Pratt has filed a formal complaint against Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, accusing her of violating California election law by allegedly campaigning too close to a ballot box. Pratt, who is running for mayor as an Independent, said Bass “violated election law” and claimed she was filmed electioneering within the restricted 100-foot zone around a ballot box, which he argued is prohibited under state rules. He posted an image of the complaint on X and said the filing was intended to protect democratic norms and enforce the rule of law.

In his complaint, Pratt’s attorney, Peter McNulty, asked city officials to investigate Bass for “illegal electioneering” and said a similar complaint had also been filed with state authorities. McNulty argued that political activity so close to voters could intimidate or improperly influence them, which is the reason the law exists. Pratt said the alleged conduct showed a “reckless disregard” for election rules and suggested that public officials should be held to a higher standard.

A spokesperson for Bass rejected the accusation, calling it false and saying the campaign followed the rules. The spokesperson said the video Pratt cited was filmed in two separate locations, including one more than 200 feet away from the ballot box with signs present, and another next to the ballot box without signs. The Bass campaign also mocked Pratt’s own campaign efforts, suggesting his supporters were AI-generated cartoons while Bass had “real Angelenos.”

The dispute comes as Pratt continues his unconventional mayoral campaign and has repeatedly used social media to criticize Bass. In earlier comments, he has said his policies would push homeless residents out of Los Angeles and has warned that if his bid fails, he may leave the city in search of what he has called the “last American dream” elsewhere.

Under California law, candidates are not allowed to campaign within 100 feet of a ballot box. Pratt’s complaint centers on whether Bass crossed that line while appearing in a campaign video that encouraged people to vote. The controversy adds a new layer to the already combative race and highlights the scrutiny around election-related conduct during the campaign. Fox News Digital reported that it reached out to Pratt for additional comment.
