French Open 2026 live: Swiatek and Svitolina advance as Djokovic takes the court on day four

At Roland-Garros, several second-round matches delivered dramatic momentum shifts, with Karen Khachanov, Elina Svitolina, Iga Swiatek and Andrey Rublev all progressing, while underdogs repeatedly pushed seeded players to the edge. Khachanov survived a wild four-set battle against Argentina’s Marco Trungelliti, winning 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(4). The Russian looked in control at times, but Trungelliti’s creativity, court coverage and crowd-pleasing shotmaking kept the contest alive deep into the fourth set. Khachanov even missed what appeared to be a routine match-ending shot, briefly opening the door for a comeback before closing out the tiebreak and advancing to face Dutchman Jesper de Jong in the next round.
Svitolina also moved through, beating Kaitlin Quevedo 6-0, 6-4 in a match that started one-sidedly but became more competitive as the American teenager settled in. The Ukrainian, who has enjoyed a strong clay season, had to manage a tougher second set before sealing victory and setting up a meeting with German qualifier Tamara Korpatsch. Svitolina described the opening round as a valuable test that helped her get into a tournament mindset.
Swiatek, the defending champion and world No. 3, was made to work by Czech youngster Sára Bejlek before winning 6-3, 6-3. The scoreline suggested comfort, but Bejlek repeatedly broke serve and exposed some vulnerability in the Pole’s game, forcing Swiatek to produce a higher level to steady herself. Despite a surprisingly high error count, Swiatek advanced and remains on course for a deep run, with a possible semifinal against Elena Rybakina looming if both players progress.
Rublev, meanwhile, was pushed hard by Francisco Comesaña Carabelli but eventually took control, moving ahead in their match after a strong opening set and recovering from a second-set wobble. The Russian’s power game proved decisive when he was able to sustain it, though the contest underlined how often he is tested mentally by opponents willing to keep swinging. Thiago Tirante also caused a surprise by defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in four sets, using his heavy serving and fast-court timing to good effect.
Elsewhere, Jessica Bouzkova rallied against Fran Jones after losing momentum, while Marta Kostyuk and Katie Volynets were locked in a tight contest, and Jelena Ostapenko was dragging Marie Bouzkova into a deciding set. The day’s action highlighted a recurring theme at Roland-Garros: seeded players may hold the edge, but on these courts, persistence, shot tolerance and belief can quickly turn matches into battles.
