James Harden Arrested in Houston on Weapons Charge

James Harden was arrested early Saturday morning in Houston after police said they found a handgun in his vehicle during a traffic stop. According to court records cited in the report, officers stopped Harden’s Mercedes in downtown Houston around 3:40 a.m. and allegedly saw the firearm in the car’s cup holder. Harden reportedly told police the weapon belonged to him. He was booked into the Harris County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon and later released on bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 22.

The arrest has drawn attention because it comes during a busy and highly visible stretch of Harden’s year. The 36-year-old former NBA MVP spent the latter part of the 2025-26 season with the Cleveland Cavs after joining the team in a February trade. In 26 games with Cleveland, he averaged 20.5 points and 7.7 assists and helped the team reach the Eastern Conference Finals. Harden’s addition gave the Cavs a major boost as they made a deep postseason run.

Harden remains one of the most accomplished players in basketball. Over a career spanning more than 17 seasons, he has won multiple scoring titles, earned 11 All-Star selections, and captured the NBA MVP award for the 2017-18 season. His reputation as one of the league’s elite offensive players has made him a constant topic of discussion both on and off the court.

At the moment, few additional details have been released about the Houston incident, and Harden has not publicly commented on the arrest. The case now shifts to the legal process, with his next court date set for June 22. The situation has temporarily redirected attention away from his basketball future and toward the off-court issues now surrounding him.

Authorities have not provided further public information about the circumstances of the traffic stop, and it remains unclear whether any additional charges or developments could follow. For now, the arrest stands as the latest major headline involving one of the NBA’s most recognizable veterans.
