George Clooney Chooses the Next James Bond Star

George Clooney has publicly backed Callum Turner as a strong candidate to become the next James Bond, praising the British actor’s looks, charm, height, and recent work in The Boys in the Boat, which Clooney produced and directed. In a new interview, Clooney said he hopes Turner lands the role and described him as someone who has quietly built momentum through “interesting work” rather than chasing easy paychecks. Clooney suggested that Turner has the mix of physical presence, humor, and screen appeal traditionally associated with a leading man and said it is exciting to see more attention coming his way. He also noted that Turner’s background and style make him a natural fit for the long-running spy franchise.

The next James Bond remains one of the most discussed casting questions in Hollywood, especially since Daniel Craig ended his run with 2021’s No Time to Die. Since Craig’s departure, speculation has focused on several actors, including Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Harris Dickinson, and Jacob Elordi. Clooney’s endorsement adds another high-profile voice to the debate and gives Turner renewed visibility among Bond watchers.

The discussion around the character has also continued to spark debate over what the franchise should look like in the future. Idris Elba, once widely viewed by fans as a possible Bond, recently said he did not support changing the character’s race and argued that the role should remain true to its original concept as a form of escapist entertainment. Elba said Bond should not be made “woke” and suggested that audiences in different markets may not accept a Black man in the role. His comments reignited conversation about legacy, representation, and whether the franchise should modernize its central character.

Daniel Craig, by contrast, has taken a much more indifferent stance. In a 2024 interview, he said he did not care who takes over the role next. Craig had previously revealed that he expected to make only one Bond film before ultimately starring in five, and he later asked for Bond to be killed off at the end of his final installment. That request was fulfilled in No Time to Die, bringing his version of 007 to a definitive close.

With no official successor announced, speculation around the future of James Bond continues to build. Clooney’s support for Turner may not decide the casting, but it adds momentum to the idea that the next 007 could be a younger British actor with strong leading-man qualities and a more understated rise to fame.
