Tamil Blockbuster Karuppu Set for Global Amazon Prime Video Release

Amazon Prime Video has announced that the Tamil fantasy-action film Karuppu will begin streaming worldwide on June 12, 2026. The movie, directed by RJ Balaji, blends mythology, courtroom drama and action spectacle, and is being positioned as one of the major Indian streaming launches of the year. It stars Suriya in the lead role as Vettai Karuppu, a folk guardian deity who takes human form as a lawyer to fight a corrupt legal system that targets poor and vulnerable people. The cast also includes Trisha Krishnan and Indrans, with music composed by Sai Abhyankkar.
Karuppu will be available on Prime Video in its original Tamil version, along with Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada dubs. A Telugu version titled Veerabhadrudu will also stream on the platform. The film will be available in more than 200 countries and territories, expanding its reach far beyond its theatrical run in India. The streaming release comes roughly four weeks after the film’s theatrical debut, and arrives ahead of Amazon’s Prime Day sales event in India in July.
Suriya said he was “truly humbled” by the audience response the film has received at the box office. Prime Video has previously streamed several of his most acclaimed films, including Jai Bhim and Soorarai Pottru, and Karuppu continues that partnership.
Industry reports say Karuppu has crossed ₹300 crore worldwide since its release on May 15, 2026, though Indian box office figures are not officially audited. If accurate, that total would make it Suriya’s highest-grossing film to date and place it among a small group of Tamil films to pass that milestone. His previous box office high was Singam 2, which reportedly earned about ₹120 crore.
Producer S R Prabhu described the film as a mix of rooted storytelling and large-scale commercial entertainment, saying it aims to deliver both emotion and spectacle. He added that the film is expected to find strong success on streaming as well, following its theatrical performance.
Manish Menghani, director and head of content licensing at Prime Video India, said the service has been home to some of Suriya’s most notable films and that Karuppu continues that relationship with high-energy action and powerful performances. The film’s release across multiple Indian languages and its broad international rollout underline Prime Video’s push to position the title as a major global streaming event.
