Eric Dane’s Daughter Graduates Middle School Following His Death

Rebecca Gayheart marked a major family milestone as her daughter Georgia graduated from middle school, sharing an emotional tribute on Instagram that reflected on a “very difficult year” for the family. In her post, Gayheart congratulated Georgia on completing middle school and praised her strength, resilience, and grace, saying she had “survived an incredibly difficult year.” She added that she was proud of her daughter’s tenacity and confidence as Georgia prepared to begin high school.
The post included photos and video from the graduation ceremony, showing Georgia receiving a sunflower and a certificate onstage. Gayheart also shared images of herself embracing Georgia after the event and pictures of the teen with friends. She noted another accomplishment as well, mentioning Georgia’s MVP trophy for beach volleyball.
The milestone drew warm reactions from friends and followers. Ellen Pompeo, who worked with Georgia’s late father Eric Dane on “Grey’s Anatomy,” congratulated Georgia in the comments and praised Gayheart’s message. Alyssa Milano, who starred with Dane on “Charmed,” also commented on the girls’ resemblance to their mother. Other commenters offered supportive messages, applauding Georgia for handling a painful family period with maturity and dignity.
Georgia’s graduation comes nearly four months after Eric Dane died on February 19 following a battle with ALS. Dane and Gayheart had previously called off their divorce after his diagnosis, and they share two daughters, Georgia and Billie, 16. In the months after his diagnosis, Dane became an outspoken advocate for ALS awareness and for others facing the disease.
After his death in Los Angeles at age 53, Dane’s family released a statement saying he passed away following a courageous battle with ALS and would be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. His final public words to his daughters were later heard in a pre-recorded video for Netflix’s “Famous Last Words,” where he encouraged Billie and Georgia to live in the present, pursue something they love, and meet life’s hardships with honesty, integrity, and grace.
Gayheart’s tribute highlighted both celebration and loss, capturing a moment of pride for Georgia while acknowledging the difficult year the family has endured.
