Bayern Munich Exploring Move for Liverpool Winger Rio Ngumoha

Bayern Munich are exploring a surprise move for Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha as they look to strengthen the left side of their attack. The German champions have identified the 17-year-old as a leading target after considering several options to add depth and long-term quality in wide areas. Ngumoha is understood to be aware of Bayern’s strong interest, which is being driven by head coach Vincent Kompany and the club’s board, although Bayern have not yet made contact with Liverpool.
Liverpool, however, are adamant that Ngumoha is not available for transfer. The Premier League club see him as an important part of their future and are planning to improve their options in his position rather than weaken them. Ngumoha signed his first professional contract in September, tying him to Anfield until June 2028, and Liverpool believe his progress justifies continued investment around him.
The England youth international enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2025-26, making 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist. His rise played a major role in Liverpool’s decision not to bring in a direct replacement when Luis Diaz left for Bayern last summer. Ngumoha is currently training with the senior England setup in Florida ahead of the World Cup, though he is not expected to be included in the tournament squad.
Liverpool’s own transfer plans are focused on signing wide forwards in the upcoming window. One of their main targets is RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, while other options are also being assessed as the club looks to reinforce its attacking depth.
Bayern’s interest in Ngumoha fits a wider pattern of future planning at the club. While their attack remains one of the strongest in Europe, several key players are entering the later stages of their careers. Harry Kane and Serge Gnabry are both in their 30s, Gnabry has just one year left on his contract, and Luis Diaz will soon turn 29. The club is therefore trying to balance short-term strength with long-term succession planning.
Bayern have already shown their willingness to invest in young attacking talent, with Michael Olise thriving under Kompany and Diaz also enjoying an excellent first season in Munich. The club’s recent success in developing wide forwards makes them an attractive destination for emerging players, and Ngumoha’s profile has now put him firmly on their radar.
While Ngumoha is at a different stage of development from some of Bayern’s other targets, his potential and age make him a compelling option as the club looks to prepare for the future. Liverpool’s stance remains firm, but Bayern’s interest underlines how highly the teenager is now rated across Europe.
