Actor Rajpal Yadav on Monday visited the residence of BJP leader Aparna Yadav to pay tribute to her husband, Prateek Yadav, during the family’s terahvi ritual. Speaking to ANI, Rajpal said the death was an “unfortunate” and “heartbreaking” incident, expressing deep grief over Prateek’s untimely passing.
Prateek Yadav, son of late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and half-brother of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, died in Lucknow on May 13 at the age of 38. His death has drawn condolences from across political and social circles, reflecting the prominence of the Yadav family in Uttar Pradesh politics.
According to the postmortem examination conducted at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), the cause of death was cardiorespiratory collapse due to massive pulmonary thromboembolism. The report also noted six antemortem injuries, indicating that the injuries were sustained before death. The medical findings included preserved heart and pulmonary thromboembolic material in formalin for histopathological examination, while viscera was preserved for chemical analysis and handed over to the concerned police authorities.
Akhilesh Yadav also expressed sorrow over the loss, describing Prateek’s death as deeply painful. Speaking to reporters earlier, he said he had known Prateek since childhood and remembered him as someone who was conscious about his health, fitness and personal growth. He said Prateek had wanted to move ahead in life and make a meaningful contribution.
Despite belonging to one of Uttar Pradesh’s most influential political families, Prateek Yadav had largely remained away from active politics. Instead, he focused on business interests and fitness-related ventures in Lucknow, maintaining a low public profile compared with other members of the family.
The terahvi gathering brought together relatives, supporters and well-wishers as the family observed the post-death ritual. Rajpal Yadav’s presence underscored the wide personal ties and public attention surrounding the bereavement. The visit came days after Prateek’s death and amid continued mourning within the family.
Prateek Yadav’s passing has prompted widespread reflection on his life away from politics, with many remembering him for his interest in health and entrepreneurship. The family continues to receive condolences following the sudden loss, which has been described by those close to him as unexpected and tragic.
